Dear Families:

At Cornell Village Public School, we strive to create an environment where youth are engaged, excited and empowered to be successful and healthy global citizens. In support of this goal, and in partnership with School Council, we would like to share our fundraising plans for the 2021-2022 year. In the past, we have been able to fund raise through various events (Cornell-a-thon, Fun Fairs), hot lunches, pizza days, movie nights, etc…).  As we start to build back our school events while adhering to our Public Health guidelines, we are starting our 2021-2022 fund raising campaign with this letter - a simple callout to families, extended families and community members - to ask for donations. Since we have not engaged in any fundraising since 2018-2019, we are certainly in need this year.  All funds received will go directly to the school to support our students. We know this time of year can be a challenge for many, especially when we are still in a pandemic. So please - only give if you can. We are also planning a fantastic Silent Auction for the spring - so stay tuned for more information on that!

SCHOOL NEEDS: 2021-2022

This year, we would like to purchase a number of items to enhance and support learning in the school.  This is where we need your help!

Technology ($12,000): The school continues to work towards a goal of providing technology devices for each child, starting in Grade 1.  Currently there are enough devices in the school for each student in grade 2 to grade 8 to have their own device.  $15,000 would be enough to purchase ~45 more Chromebooks.  So far this year the school has purchased 30 new Chromebooks and 15 new projectors from our last remaining fundraising funds. We are also continuing to use ~80 devices that are obsolete but functional.  These will also need to be replaced.

Arts Enhancement ($10,000): Last year, we were able to purchase 90 ukuleles.  We would like to continue to enhance our arts and music programs as we look for new ways for our students to enjoy the Arts.

Snack Program @ CVPS ($2,000): Healthy snacks are an important part of keeping kids healthy and ready to learn. Well -nourished students are better able to concentrate, remember and apply the things they learn, and are more likely to show positive social behaviours.  This year we have applied for and received a Snack Program grant of ~$3,500.  It is estimated that running a full year program will cost approximately $10,000.  Starting in December, students will be provided with the option of a nutritious snack at morning recess every day. Our nutrition program will follow Canada’s Food Guide for Healthy Eating. We recognize that our school community is composed of many different cultures. We will strive to accommodate all of our students’ dietary needs to ensure that everyone can be included in our nutrition program.

FUNDRAISING TARGET: $24,000

Voluntary donations of any amount are welcomed and valued. You can choose to direct your donation to any either or allboth of the above areas of need. Donate directly and anytime by signing into your School Cash Oonline account (https://yrdsb.schoolcashonline.com/).  Be sure to select Cornell Village Public School as the Fund Destination.   We also accept cash / cheques sent directly to the school office or you may send the donation into your child’s homeroom teacher in a sealed envelope.  Charitable dDonation receipts can be emailed to you directly for any amount $20 or greater.   Your donation will go towards all three areas of need, otherwise, iIf you would like to specifically direct your donation to one of the specific areas of need, please indicate on your cheque/envelope or in School Cash Online in the “Notes'' section which area you would like to donate to specifically.

If we could average $25.00 per student, we have the potential to raise close to half of our fundraising target just by direct donations alone. Every dollar raised will directly benefit the learning experiences of our students.

On behalf of Cornell Village Public School and School Council, we would like to thank you for your continued support and generous donation.

Sincerely,
