Cobra Communicator #5
We are a village, growing together
October 1, 2021
Dear families,
A special thanks to all our students, families and staff for a wonderful September start up. It’s hard to believe it’s already October and we are well underway at CVPS. Thank you to our families for continuing to read and do the daily screening. All of our families who have carefully followed the protocol, stayed home with symptoms and completed COVID tests, continue to help to keep our school the safest it can be.
We hope you get a chance to relax and enjoy the weekend
Sincerely,
Scott Chin Leeann Morrow
Principal Vice Principal

Health and Safety:
The Ministry of Education and York Region Public Health have indicated that the requirement for elementary and secondary students to complete the daily on-site confirmation of self -assessment screening will not be extended beyond the initial two-week window. As such, beginning Monday, September 27, families/students are not required to complete the confirmation form each morning.
Please note: Daily self-assessment screening for Staff and Students continues to be required.
Parents/Guardians of Elementary students are required to complete on-line self-assessment COVID-19 School and Child-Care Screening Tool (please click on Check for Symptoms Daily), prior to their child entering the school (*this is the York Region Public Health Screening guidelines, not the Ontario Provincial screening tool). You can also print the attached Screening Tool to use daily. Note that these tools do get updated so using the online tool will be the most up to date. The latest version is now SEPTEMBER 27th
Any students who are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 as identified in the screening tool (not related to a COVID-19 vaccine) or answer yes to any of the screening questions, must not enter any school and follow the guidance in the screening tool.
Terry Fox Run - October 1
Way to go CVPS! Thanks to Ms. Cockburn for organizing another successful Terry Fox Run and all the staff and families for your support. Lots of smiles (under their masks). Thank you so much for your donations. If you haven’t had a chance to donate yet.
There are two very easy ways to help show your support. You can donate directly online at: http://www.terryfox.ca/CornellVillagePSMarkham. Cash donations will also be accepted at the school (pledge forms are available for those who would like one). Together, we can all make a difference. #terryfoxschoolruns #tryliketerry @terryfoxfoundation
Islamic Heritage Month
In 2007, the Government of Canada declared the month of October as Canadian Islamic History Month. The province of Ontario passed the Islamic Heritage Month Act (2016) to recognize and affirm the important contributions that Muslims make in Ontario as part of the vibrant social, economic, political and cultural fabric of our province. This month affords an opportunity to reflect, celebrate and learn about the rich and longstanding contributions of Muslim Canadians to this nation. Affirming Muslim identity for our students is critical in combating Islamophobia in our schools and further challenging systemic barriers that impede the inclusive climates necessary for student well-being and achievement. Please join us as we work with our school community to recognize, honour and celebrate diverse Muslim identities in our school.
CVPS Orientation Evening - Wednesday, October 13 (5:45pm-7:30pm)

Message to Families from YRDSB
Subject: Asynchronous Learning Day / Schools Closed to Students - Friday, October 15, 2021
Dear families,
We want to thank families for their patience and support as we have started the new school year and implemented the hybrid learning model. Over the past month, our Board of Trustees and senior staff have had an opportunity to hear feedback from families and educators and observe classrooms.
On Friday, October 15, school staff will engage in professional learning on the hybrid model.
Schools will be closed to students on Friday, October 15 . Please do not send your child to school. Asynchronous (not live) learning activities will be provided to students in order to support their continued learning.
This additional professional learning will enable us to share effective practices and support, and be responsive to some of the feedback we have heard. We are committed to creating learning environments that enable all of our students, both in-person and remote, to be successful, and feel connected and supported.
We want to acknowledge the professionalism and dedication of our educators as they implement this new model, which enables students to remain connected with staff and peers in their home school, and allows for greater flexibility between remote and in-person learning options, and maintaining the continuity of learning.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for families and thank you for your patience and support.
KISS AND RIDE -drop off and pick up reminders
*In the mornings students may enter ANY door. You do not need to deliver them to their exit doors. Use the Kiss and Ride to drop off your child safely and avoid the over crowded streets.
**CORNELL COMMONS ROAD congestion - turning around and driving East on Cornell Commons Road (especially during rainy days) creates huge congestion. Please continue West or use the Kiss and Ride.
NEW items for the Kiss and Ride
Morning drop off is open from 8:40 a.m - 9:00 a.m.
Please use the right hand single lane in the Bus Loop.
DO NOT pass in the Kiss and Ride Loop – students may get out on both sides of the car.
SPECIAL PANDEMIC EXCEPTIONS - Families dropping Kindergarten students off may park in the west end of the lot (not along the loading zone in the Kiss and Ride Loop) but note there is NO crosswalk at the end
These cars are to exit the west end of the lot, and rejoin the kiss and ride loop not on the east end where students are walking in
Picking Up at Dismissal Time
Please note – you may enter the Kiss and Ride loop in the parking lot prior to 3:20 p.m. Both the entrance and exit to the parking lot will remain closed until 3:40 p.m to ensure the safe dismissal of our students. You may choose to park along the right side curb but must remain stationary until the line of parked cars is dismissed at 3:40 p.m. If you would like to park and pick up your students, please see our alternate parking options.
Where to Park
Between 9:10 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. you are welcome to use any open parking spaces in the school lot.
Please do not park in the Bus Loop at any time.
The school lot will be closed from 8:45 a.m. – 9:10 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. – 3:40 p.m. – Please use alternate parking available on the following streets:
