September 24, 2021

Dear families,

We hope this message finds you and your families well! By now most of our students have gotten back into the swing of school. It’s great to see all the learning that is taking place and we are constantly amazed by our students reisilicy.

As the weather gets a bit cooler and more time is being spent indoors just a reminder please continue to have conversations with our students about the importance and necessity of social distancing, hand sanitizing and mask wearing.

  1. Health and Safety:

The Ministry of Education and York Region Public Health have indicated that the requirement for elementary and secondary students to complete the daily on-site confirmation of self -assessment screening will not be extended beyond the initial two-week window. As such, beginning Monday, September 27, families/students are not required to complete the confirmation form each morning.

Please note: Daily self-assessment screening for Staff and Students continues to be required.

Parents/Guardians of Elementary students are required to complete on-line self-assessment COVID-19 School and Child-Care Screening Tool (please click on Check for Symptoms Daily), prior to their child entering the school (*this is the York Region Public Health Screening guidelines, not the Ontario Provincial screening tool).  You can also print the attached Screening Tool to use daily.  Note that these tools do get updated so using the online tool will be the most up to date.

Any students who are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 as identified in the screening tool (not related to a COVID-19 vaccine) or answer yes to any of the screening questions, must not enter any school and follow the guidance in the screening tool.

  1. Upcoming Events: Orange Shirt Day Thursday, September 30 and Terry Fox Run, Friday - October 1

Cornell Village Public School is proud to be participating in this year’s Terry Fox School Run.  We will be holding our school run on Friday, October 1st.  There are two very easy ways to help show your support.   You can donate directly online at:  http://www.terryfox.ca/CornellVillagePSMarkham. Cash donations will also be accepted at the school (pledge forms are available for those who would like one).  Together, we can all make a difference. #terryfoxschoolruns #tryliketerry @terryfoxfoundation

  1. School Organization

Some families have been following our school board timelines and September is the ReOrganization Date.  We have been very fortunate that this year we will not be reorganizing our classes.   There may be some minor student timetable changes due to a small increase in staffing for our school.  These changes will be in effect on Monday September 27.

  1. Student Verification Forms

Please check the addresses and phone numbers on the student index card that was sent home last week.  If there are no changes, please sign and return to your child’s homeroom teacher. Thank you to all the parents / guardians who have returned their Student Registration Verification forms. **If immunization records were submitted with registration; the school does NOT update this field. York Region Health monitors our student’s immunization records and they will be in touch if any information is required.
