Cobra Communicator
We are a village, growing together
September 17, 2021
Dear families,
What a week! We made it…. our first full week back at school. We hope you had a chance to enjoy some of the beautiful weather this weekend. Thanks to all our families for the support, flexibility and understanding as we transition back to school with a brand new hybrid model. Thank you for your patience as we continue to organize our hybrid classrooms and manage our technology.
Well done to our students who did a great job adhering to all the health and safety protocols and following all our routines. Thank you to all the families who are adhering to the York Region Public Health screening every day and following the directions. It’s important to be vigilant and careful when checking your children each day for symptoms. There are COVID cases in our community and early identification is key to ensuring no / limited community spread within our school. Following our protocol by staying home (if unvaccinated) if your child or if someone in your household has a symptom of COVID. If needed, please access the COVID testing at Markham Stouffville Hospital. https://www.oakvalleyhealth.ca/clinics-departments/covid-19-assessment-centre
*A reminder: siblings of students with symptoms identified at school will be going home together and remain home as per the protocol
The letter below contains important information about the return to school. Please review it. We also encourage families to visit www.yrdsb.ca/school-reopening for videos, frequently asked questions, important health and safety information and more about the school reopening. There is a translation tool on the website that will translate the content into over 100 languages.
Please visit our website and view our “School Start Up Package” in the announcement section on our main school website. http://www.yrdsb.ca/schools/cornellvillage.ps/Pages/default.aspx
A guide to the school year will be sent home with your child in the next couple of days. During the week of September 20, the board will send a sign out for all the usual start up forms.
Sincerely,
Scott Chin Leeann Morrow
Principal Vice Principal

Health and Safety:
Please review the School Board website outlining our specific health and safety measures for our school.
https://www2.yrdsb.ca/about-us/covid-19/health-and-safety
Many of you have shared questions about the CONFIRMATION FORM. Please complete the Screening Tool and answer all your questions. If it says you can come to school, please complete the CONFIRMATION FORM EVERY morning prior to attending school. You will need your child’s student number and password (which can be obtained by contacting your child’s homeroom teacher / myself). Below are the links. TIP: if you have more than one student in our school be sure to click “sign out” after completing the form to input the next child.
Parents/guardians of elementary students (or the students themselves depending on their age) will have to provide confirmation of a successful screening as follows:
1. Parents/Guardians of Elementary students are required to complete on-line self-assessment COVID-19 School and Child-Care Screening Tool (please click on Check for Symptoms Daily), prior to their child entering the school
2. Upon completion of the self-assessment, Parents/Guardians will complete the response to the question: “Have you completed the self-screening tool?” in the Confirmation Form, using their child’s GAPPS account login information. Information on how to access your child’s GAPPS account is available on the Board’s website. If you do not have a student number/username, one will be provided by your child’s teacher.
Any students who are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 as identified in the screening tool (not related to a COVID-19 vaccine) or answer yes to any of the screening questions, must not enter any school and follow the guidance in the screening tool.
School Organization
Some families have been following our school board timelines and September is the ReOrganization Date. We have been very fortunate that this year we will not be reorganizing our classes. There may be some minor student timetable changes due to a small increase in staffing for our school. These changes will be in effect on Monday September 27.
Student Verification Forms
Please check the addresses and phone numbers on the student index card that was sent home last week. If there are no changes, please sign and return to your child’s homeroom teacher.
